FDA and Grain Free Diets

FDA and Grain Free Diets

What's going on?

Over the past few years the FDA has been investigating a heart disease found in dogs known as Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). Since 2014, of the estimated 77 million dogs in America, 515 have been diagnosed with DCM. This means that roughly 0.0007% of dogs in America have been diagnosed with DCM. The FDA is concerned that grain free diets may be a potential cause of DCM.

At this point, it is known that some breeds have a genetic predisposition to DCM; it is these breeds that were included in the recent study. As of now, there is no scientific evidence that links a grain free diet and DCM.

As no brands of food have been recalled, there is a lot more research to be done. In the meantime feel free to reach out to us with any questions you have about your dogs diet!
